While FTTH develops across Europe the gap between broadband access in major cities and in rural areas increases.  ADSL broadband is limited by the distance from the exchange which often results in a poor service for rural communities.  The IFOTEC xDSL extension units extend the reach by using a single fibre to service 24 subscribers up to 80km from an exchange site.  The DSLFibre is a stepping stone to full FTTH coverage.
